Veronika Herrera Mojica | 2024 Latina of Influence

Hispanic Lifestyle is pleased to honor Senior Director of the East Harlem Teaching Residency Veronika Herrera Mojica as a Latina of Influence. Ms. Herrera Mojica will be recognized for her leadership in our community during Hispanic Lifestyle’s Connecting Latinas of Influence | New Jersey to be held on September 26, 2024.

Veronika Herrera Mojica joined the East Harlem Tutorial Program in 2016. EHTP is a community based organization founded in 1958 and is recognized as a leader among organizations working to advance educational outcomes and as an agent of change and thoughtful contributor to the national fight for racial equity.

Veronika is the Senior Director of the East Harlem Teaching Residency. EHTR’s approach reimagines traditional teacher training and recruitment strategies. This work is done by intentionally recruiting, selecting and developing BIPOC teaching residents. Since its founding, EHTR has been committed to developing teaching residents using high leverage teaching techniques that are grounded in anti-racist practices.

While at EHTR Veronika has successfully coached and developed each cohort of residents. She has designed, launched and scaled both the elementary and secondary teacher training programs. In her most current role at EHTR, Veronika leads the vision and strategic planning for the program, manages the residency team and both cohorts of teaching residents across several campuses. She also serves as a network leader for the organization.

Prior to her tenure at EHTR and before transitioning into education, Veronika served in various capacities at community based non-profits in her hometown of Los Angeles, CA. She began her teaching career in Liberty City, Florida as a 2003 TFA corps member and spent over a decade as a school based educator both in Florida and New York. Veronika holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in both Ethnic & Women’s Studies, Chicano Studies and Education.

Veronika also stands as the visionary founder behind MUJERONA, a vibrant community centered around Latina empowerment. At its core, MUJERONA embodies a mission to ignite a powerful movement among Latinas, urging them to prioritize one another when seeking products and services. Through this collective support, not only is the economic standing of Latinas elevated but this also fortifies the foundation of the Latino community’s prosperity, fostering a legacy of empowerment and solidarity for generations to come.

When Veronika isn’t leading EHTR or MUJERONA, you can find her listening to a podcast while running or chasing after one (or all) of her kiddos. She lives in a suburb outside of NYC with her husband and three beautiful children.

NOMINATION

I am thrilled to nominate Veronika Herrera Mojica for the Latina of Influence Award. As the First Latina Senior Director of the East Harlem Teaching Residency (EHTR), Veronika has redefined teacher training and recruitment strategies, focusing on empowering BIPOC educators through anti-racist practices and high-leverage teaching techniques.

Veronika’s leadership at EHTR has been transformative, with successful launches and scaling of teacher training programs. Her dedication extends beyond program development; she coaches and nurtures each cohort of residents to reach their full potential, fostering a culture of support and growth.

In addition to her impactful work at EHTR, Veronika is the visionary founder of MUJERONA, a platform dedicated to Latina empowerment and economic prosperity. Through her initiatives, she is building a legacy of solidarity and empowerment within the Latina community. She is single-handedly connecting Latina women from across the globe.

Veronika’s passion for education and empowerment is matched only by her dedication to her family. Even with her busy schedule, she finds time to nurture her relationships and pursue personal interests, demonstrating resilience and balance in all aspects of her life.

Veronika’s leadership, advocacy, and dedication make her a true Latina of Influence. I wholeheartedly endorse her for this esteemed recognition and believe she is more than deserving of this honor. Julie Delgadillo
