A Creative Journey | Las Tres Sisters

In celebration of Women’s History Month, Hispanic Lifestyle is pleased to share the journey of the producers, writers, and cast members of the movie “Las Tres Sisters,” released just a few days ago.

We spoke with the creative team about their nine-year journey to get the project produced  at the National Association of Latino Independent Producers (NALIP) Celebrating Latino Excellence: 25th Anniversary End-of-the-Year Celebration event.

Myriad Pictures presents LAS TRES SISTERS, a heartwarming tale of three Mexican-American sisters embarking on a journey through Mexico. Inspired by their beloved grandmother, they set out on a traditional pilgrimage, not only to complete it but also to mend their strained relationship.

Starring Marta Méndez Cross (The Bounce Back, “Hopeless Romantic”), Virginia Novello (The Persecution and Murder of Jean-Paul Marat,”Extremities”), Valeria Maldonado (Coco, “En Las Buenas y En Las Malas”) and Cristo Fernández (“Ted Lasso,” “Acapulco”). Directed by Mar Novo. Written by Marta Méndez Cross, Virginia Novello, Valeria Maldonado, Youssef Delara (Filly Brown).

As described on their website, LAS TRES SISTERS is an uplifting tale of three sisters who reunite after years of estrangement to complete their beloved Grandmother’s pilgrimage through rural Mexico. Armed with an old map and no hiking experience, their lives are in turmoil as they embark on this journey. Along the way, they encounter hilarious and touching experiences on the Talpa de Allende trail, until Kin, a local with a mysterious past, intervenes and guides them toward the Miracle that awaits at the trail’s end.

An Actors Journey
Marta, Valeria and Virginia started off as friends. Actor friends who supported each other through the insanity of being in the entertainment industry. What started as “let’s make a short film”, evolved into an nine year collaboration of writing, producing and then starring in their feature film: SISTERS. And indeed, sisters they became. To write a movie implied getting to know each other on an immensely personal and deep level and to hold onto each other for dear life, while LIFE…did its thing. Marta had two babies and learned how to navigate her new role as a mother. Virginia got married three times to the same person (that’s another script). She became a tantra breathwork facilitator, finding joy in helping others to heal. Valeria explored the magic of being single in LA in her thirties, learn from betrayal, and eventually say goodbye to her mother who died from pancreatic cancer two days after SISTERS finished principal photography. Through it all, they leaned on each other to cope, find the joy and develop a beautiful sisterhood.
