Featuring top mariachi groups from the United States and Mexico, the MARIACHI USA Festival thrills audiences, young and old, and has elevated the musical art form to a new level of entertainment. Founded and created by artist/producer, Rodri J. Rodriguez, the festival gives generations a way to share in the musical tradition full of rich color and sounds of beautifully crafted music.
This year’s four and a half hour festival features: Mexico’s legendary Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan; Grammy nominee Mariachi Los Arrieros del Valle from Texas; the popular Mariachi Estrella de Jalisco; and Mariachi Los Reyes, both from Los Angeles. Also celebrating their debut at the festival is Grammy nominee, Trio Ellas. Known for launching award winning talent the Festival this year introduces Ranchera singer Melinda. The 20 member, Mi Tierra Ballet Folklórico, adds to the evening’s extravaganza with their amazing choreography and colorful costumes.
This year’s show will feature a musical tribute to Mexico’s legendary composer and performer Jose Alfredo Jimenez. Jimenez wrote over 1,000 songs, amongst the most famous of these: “El Rey”, “Ella” and “Si Nos Dejan”. This year marks the 40thanniversary of his passing but his songs have been immortalized by many singers since then.
The half time jam on June 29th will kick-off the American independence festivities, with a special rendition of “Yankee Doodle Dandee”! Topping off this action-packed lineup is a spectacular fireworks finale that accompanies the traditional sing-along of 17,000 fans singing to “El Rey”, “Volver Volver”, “Viva Mexico” and “La Negra”.
The MARIACHI USA Festival was created in 1990 to celebrate the rich mariachi music tradition that many Mexicans take pride in and non Mexicans embrace as the happy music of the world. The nostalgia and history that explodes with each note of mariachi music brings delight and pride to many Mexicans and Mexican Americans in the United States. Today, it is enjoyed across the world and by countless ethnicities.
