“The Brazilian Hour” in conjunction with the Consulate General of Brazil in Los Angeles and BrazilFoundation is proud to announce the celebration of the 5th Annual Brazilian Day in LA on Sunday, September 12th. The festivities will take place at the La Brea Tar Pits, Hancock Park on 5801 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90036 from 12:00PM-6:00PM and is free to the public.
The 5th Annual Brazilian Day in LA is being sponsored by KPFK’s 90.7 FM and legendary radio personality Sergio Mielniczenko will host the event. Sergio presents KPFK’s “The Global Village” and KXLU’s “The Brazilian Hour” radio programs, and has been huge supporter of Brazilian music and culture. He has been filling the airwaves with the very best of samba, bossa nova, musica popular Brasileira, and Brazilian jazz for over 30 years. A good friend to artists such as Sergio Mendes, Milton Nascimento and Caetono Veloso, Mielniczenko is widely recognized as the ambassador of Brazilian culture to the American public. He will be spinning all the best Brazilian beats, from the bossa nova to the samba, to the most contemporary of sounds emanating from Brazil.
“Music is the heart of Brazil and nothing gives me more pleasure than to get everyone excited about its music. It’s been my life’s purpose,” says Sergio.
The crowd can also take in some of the best Brazilian artists at the event including Sambajah’s samba and pagode, MUAMBA’s samba and funk, Los Brazilian Boys’ pop rock, and Renni Flores, who has created her own style by mixing samba-reggae, funk, reggae, and rock.
With Brazilian music as a soundtrack to the event, there is also an arts component to the day with an exhibition of Brazilian art and culture at the “Brazilian Consulate Gallery” tent. This will showcase fifteen artists and will cover a variety of styles and media.
No day is complete without Brazilian food to accompany the aesthetics. Food from Rio Brazil Café, Silvio’s BBQ, and chefs Emiko Vianna and Simone Rose will also be serving up the finest dishes from Brazil. Raffle tickets will also be available throughout the day giving the crowd a chance to win a trip to Brazil, along with many other prizes. All proceeds will benefit the BrazilFoundation.
The fifth largest country in the world will pour its culture into the second largest city in the US on one day to bring you a taste of Brazil. The event is made possible by The Consulate General of Brazil in Los Angeles and the BrazilFoundation. Also helping make this event possible is the California Steel Industries, Korean Air, KPFK 90.7 FM, ONE Coconut Water, ITV, Explore, Soul Brasil Magazine, and Brazilian Nites Productions.
