Goya Foods

Entering their 75th year in business is Goya Foods.  Founded in 1936 by Don Prudencio Unanue  and his wife Carolina, both had imigrated from Spain and their adventure started with small storefront in lower Manhattan. Today Goya Foods offers 1,800 products and has grown to over 3,500 employees.

Hispanic Lifestyle was on hand as the company provide insights into their 75th anniversary plans. We first spoke with Evelio Fernandez, Vice President of Goya Foods about their expansion to the west coast.

As consumers continue to experiment with cooking styles, Mr. Fernandez spoke about Goya’s receipe books highlighting Latin american cuisine.

Mr. Fernandez spoke about the company’s plans for expansion.

I asked Mr. Fernandez if there were plans for Goya to expand in to the restaurant business or other industries.

We than had an opportunity to meet the Grandson of the founders, Robert Anthony Unanue who shared his thoughts about joining the family business.

We finished our conversation with Robert by asking about the customers of Goya’s Foods products.

Preparing many of the dishes at the Goya event was chef Hugo Molina. We asked Chef Molina if he would talk about his professional background.

Chef Molina gave Hispanic Lifestyle his perspective on the restaurant industry.

 

Personality Hotels

One of my favorite places in California is Union Square located San Francisco. During a recent trip we discovered a boutique hotel with no pun intended, lots of personality. A few phone calls later we set up an interview with their owner who spoke about the hotels she runs, which just happen to be full of personality.

We asked Yovonne if she would talk about the experience of staying in a boutique hotel.

Being a fan of Humphrey Bogart movies, Yvonne spoke about the one her theme rooms at the Hotel Union Square.

We finished our conversaiton with Yvonne by asking about how the hotels got their name.

Donate Life One Legacy

One of our viewers brought to our attention the non profit organization One Legacy. Incorporated by Drs. Robert and Rafael Mendez in 1977, OneLegacy serves 215 hospitals and approximately 19 million people throughout the state of California.

We spoke with One legacy’s Elena de la cruz about the organization and their annual participation in the Rose Parade.

Elena went on to highlight one the volunteers and why their family comes out in force to work on the float.

Entering a float in the Rose Parade is a major undertaking. Hispanic Lifestyle spoke with Bryan Swart Vice President of Communications for One Legacy on why they took this route to educate the public on the importance of organ donations.
