Our First DIY Project | Vanity Nook
GMC, Justin DiPego and Hispanic Lifestyle worked together on our first DIY project.
Some of our friends know that we just moved into our new place, but it was missing something special and I wanted to surprise my wife with her own vanity. Keep in mind my wife has a lot to put up with, my traveling, late nights editing segments for Hispanic Lifestyle and my sense of humor.
I discussed the project with DIY expert Justin DiPego and he introduced a term I have now added to my vocabulary “Upcycling Makeover” which involves finding existing furniture and making them into new functional pieces. The items we selected for the project were purchased from Habitat for Humanity ReStores and transported from trucks provided by our friends at GMC. Again, our mission was to create a vanity nook for my wife. Jumping to end, the project was a success by the person who matters the most, my wife Gabriela.
In this segment of Hispanic Lifestyle we get tips from our new friend Justin and highlights of Hispanic Lifestyle’s first adventure into a DIY project. Note: I actually did some hands on work, I carried a few items, drove a fantastic truck and painted various pieces.
About Justin DiPego
Justin spent years both as a writer and editor and working in the trades as a handyman, framer and installer of skylights. Justin was the Senior Editor of DoItYourself.com, covering a whole range of home improvement topics. Now Justin brings his voice and face to you, unfiltered – and it’s all really an excuse to get into his workshop and write about home improvement, fixing things and making things out of other things, like glowing whiskey bars, reclaimed redwood tables, knives out of horseshoes, lamps out of plumbing parts and a butler robot.
