Born in East Los Angeles and raised in downtown L.A. in a 60-unit apartment building filled with cockroaches, rats, and gang members, it was a miracle if she had lunch money growing up. Today, she is the founder of several multimillion-dollar businesses, including one of LA’s top best restaurants, the Nixon Chops and Whiskey in Whittier, and the designer sensation, Savvy Socks. Her companies have been featured in the United Nations, the LA Times, the BBC, CNN and NBC.

Hazel is also a leading expert in vocational counseling and training for injured workers, and author of the best selling book, From Bounced Checks to Private Jets: The Mastery of Miracles. Her purpose is to improve the quality of people’s lives through education. Her mission is to create a premier community for businesswomen to come together to touch, move, and inspire a billion+ women around the globe in mastering their miracles and living legendary lives.

Hazel embodies what your community represents. To me influence means positively impacting lives.
I’ve seen Hazel support people and lift up lives through her work with the injured worker community. Many of these people are faced with some of the toughest life choices and Hazel educates them and shows them how to turn their life around.
Life struggle is something Hazel has lived through growing up in a tough neighborhood. She overcame those obstacles and openly shares her story so others can do the same. Her book Mastery of Miracles inspires others to see their life as a miracle no matter how hard it is.

I have chosen Hazel Ortega as a nominee for a Latina of Influence because not only is she a heart-centered beauty who leads by example but she also lifts other women up to help them get to where she is. Hazel has a heart that receives and gives back. The epitome of the Latin community is our ability to move and speak from our hearts and she exemplifies that 1000 fold. Hazel has an unrelenting desire to build a community of powerhouse women of Millionaires and Billionaires pulling from the Hispanic community and other minority groups. We are known by our words and our actions and Hazel has the ability to operate in a level of integrity and greatness that leaves other women inspired and in awe of her.
