2020 Latina of Influence | Maria E. Hall, Attorney at Law
Hispanic Lifestyle is pleased to recognize Attorney at Law Maria E. Hall as a 2020 Latina of Influence. Ms. Hall along with our entire list of 2020 Latinas of Influence are invited to participate in Latina Conference taking place June 2, 2020 in Ontario, California.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, Attorney Maria E. Hall is familiar with the unique cultural landscape and special legal issues that arise from living and doing business in a culturally diverse, international city like Los Angeles. Attorney Hall graduated from USC Law School in 2003 and was admitted to the California Bar the same year. In recognition of her commitment to providing access to legal services for those unable to afford a lawyer, she won two post-graduate fellowships (the Irmas Fellowship and the Earthjustice/Sutherland Fellowship) that funded her first year’s work as a lawyer at Communities for a Better Environment (CBE). CBE is a social justice organization with a focus on environmental health and justice in working class communities of color that suffer most from environmental pollution and toxics.
In 2005, Attorney Hall started her own law practice focusing on civil rights, environmental justice, and representing tenants suing slumlords. Since then, Attorney Hall has teamed up with other lawyers, branching out to the areas of real estate and business litigation and transactions, in addition to continuing her work representing civil rights plaintiffs.
Attorney Hall is honored to serve as Vice President of the Board of Trustees of the Mexican American Bar Foundation (“MABF”), a nonprofit organization with a mission of “enhancing diversity of the legal profession through education” by providing scholarships to students of Latino heritage attending ABA-accredited law schools in Los Angeles County, including Loyola, Pepperdine, Southwestern, UCLA, and USC. Attorney Hall is the Co-President of the Los Angeles Chapter of the National Lawyers Guild (www.nlg-la.org), where she has had the opportunity to undertake novel legal cases pro bono such as the representation of a Marine Corps Reservist during his conscientious objector proceedings. She has also defended political protesters in criminal proceedings.
Attorney Hall also serves as Chief Financial Officer for J.J. Woofin’ Paws Rescue Agency, an animal rescue organization with a mission to find loving, forever homes for needy animals who are in danger of euthanasia in city and county kill shelters.
