Tanya Torres | 2023 Latina of Influence
We are pleased to announce that Tanya Torres, Director of Investments | Certified Financial Planner™ has been selected as a Hispanic Lifestyle 2023 Latina of Influence. Ms. Torres will be recognized for her leadership in our community during Hispanic Lifestyle’s Connecting Latinas of Influence – Los Angeles event on September 14, 2023.
Tanya is a Latina Certified Financial Planner that at a young age has made a name for herself in the Finance Industry amongst peers. She represents the 2% of CFPs that are Latinas and is proud to be a first generation from Zacatecas, Mexico. Her resilience was born long before navigating the male dominated arena on Wall St. though. One week before starting her last year of undergrad at UCI she was hit head on by a drunk driver going the wrong way. Despite being given a 15% chance of survival, & undergoing 8 surgeries and 1 year of physical therapy, she defied all odds and graduated one year later. 2 years after graduation, her father which was her best friend died suddenly. Despite surviving so many situations full of physical, emotional and psychological pain, she is a successful and goal oriented individual. She is a parter and Director of Investments at One Oak Wealth Management, a Houston based firm dedicated to serving physicians and first generation millennials. She is the founder and CEO of Power Planning, a company that she founded as a way to make financial literacy accessible and in a product format.
Her goal now is to help and inspire others see pain through a different lens. In her day job, she works with individuals to help them use money in a way that they can create a life that they love and feel fulfilled to live. She lives by the mantra that finance is more than numbers. She helps others achieve goals, gain clarity and live life purposefully.
Tanya’s Personal Statement: I am a proud and fearless first generation Latina. I began my career in finance at one of the best investment firms on Wall St, Merrill Lynch. As I was getting ready in the morning for my first day, I knew there was a big chance that I would be the only Latina advisor in the office, and I wasn’t wrong. I didn’t know I would be the only Spanish speaking advisor in the Southern California market, but I loved and embraced it from Day 1. I dove in head first into financial planning and investment management because I knew I had to bring these resources to my Latino community.
When I realized my values and desire to help did not align with corporate america profit driven goals, I began to explore my options to provide financial services my way. The universe must have been listening because shortly after, I was recruited by One Oak Wealth Management, as a partner and Director of Investments. During that same period, I was inspired to launch Power Planning. A company that sells planners, journals & stationery for goal driven and ambitious individuals. The flagship product I custom created from cover to cover, the Power Planner is a weekly/monthly planner that includes education and guidance on creating a financial plan, with everything from debt repayment strategies, to how to open an brokerage account and start investing.
Through my day job at One Oak, I can now provide financial services to the Latino community in a way that is accessible, understandable and affordable to the masses. I use my platform on social media and through public speaking to bring education and awareness around finances and I love every minute of it. When I am not working, I love spending time with my husband who is also a proud first generation entrepreneur and we travel to Mexico often. He is passionate about Charreria and we spend our free time walking our dog, at the ranch with his horses and keeping our traditions and cultures alive.
