2021 Latina of Influence | Elaine Torres
Hispanic Lifestyle is pleased to recognize Elaine Torres Community Affairs Director at CBS4, KCNC – TV as a 2021 Latina of Influence. She oversees the station’s strategic community partnerships and manages special events and community initiatives. She is responsible for station sponsorships, charitable giving, and community outreach for CBS4. Prior to joining CBS4, Elaine worked as the Public Affairs Coordinator for the Rocky Mountain News where she was responsible for charitable giving and community relations.
Some of the CBS4 strategic community partnerships Elaine oversees include a successful partnership between King Soopers, KBCO and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver to collect toys that are distributed at Boys & Girls Clubs’ holiday celebrations and used throughout the year in 20 Denver area clubs as prizes and incentives. From the first day of kindergarten to high school graduation, Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver helps kids succeed in school, develop good character and citizenship, and live healthy lives. Another partnership she leads is A Day for Wednesday’s Child, benefitting Raise the Future. This annual event raises funds to help children in the foster care system find forever families. Raise the Future believes every young person deserves to go through life knowing they have a caring adult by their side. A new strategic partnership was developed as COVID-19 broke out was with Robbie’s Hope Foundation, helping to raise awareness of teen depression and suicide. Robbie’s-Hope is an uprising of teens to help other teens with a mission to stop the suicide epidemic that’s taking the lives of so many American teens.
Elaine serves on several community boards and committees. She’s the Chair of the Bonfils-Stanton Foundation Board of Trustees, Chair of the Latino Community Foundation of Colorado Board of Directors, serves on the Denver Zoo’s Leadership Council, the Denver Art Museum’s Marketing & Strategic Alliance Committee and the Colorado Non-Profit Association’s Leadership Advisory Committee. She recently served on the Mile High Chapter of the American Red Cross Board of Directors, the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD) Board of Directors, and the Women’s Foundation of Colorado Board of Trustees. Elaine recently became a member of the International Women’s Forum of Colorado.
Elaine was one of 20 women selected from across the country to participate in the National Hispana Leadership Institute’s 1999 leadership program. This program included intensive training in San Juan Bautista, California; the JFK School of Government at Harvard University; the Center for Creative Leadership in Greensboro, North Carolina; and the Hispanic Congressional Caucus in Washington, D.C. Elaine is a graduate of the 2001 Leadership Denver Program and in 2009 was named a “Woman of Distinction” through the Girl Scouts of Colorado. In 2018, Elaine received the inaugural Latinas LEAD Influencer Award from the Latino Community Foundation of Colorado.
In 1999, Elaine completed her master’s degree in applied communications, with an emphasis in Marketing and Public Relations, from the University of Denver. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1993.
Elaine is married to Phil Workman and is the proud mother of her thirteen-year old son, Tristan.
