Works of art by Rodolfo Escalera to be Featured
Works of art by Rodolfo Escalera, a self-taught artist whose career spanned decades in Mexico and Southern California, will be shown at the Victor Valley Museum in Apple Valley during Hispanic Heritage Month. The exhibit opens to the general public on Sept. 16 and admission for the first 200 visitors on that day is underwritten by the Dreamers, Visionaries and Leaders. The exhibit runs through Oct. 15 and is included with general admission.
Many of Escalera’s works on view in this exhibition were meticulously created using tiny “00” paintbrushes. His initial five significant masterpieces took him twenty years and thousands of hours to finish. The exhibit opens with an invitation-only reception on Sept. 15.
“On behalf of the entire Escalera family, it is our distinct honor to have been asked to showcase our patriarch’s artwork at the 2017 Hispanic Heritage Month Festival at the Victor Valley Museum,” said Roberto Escalera, a High Desert resident and son of the artist. “We thank Regina Bell of DVL (Dreamers, Visionaries and Leaders) for having reached out to us. We are excited to share with you his very first painting created as a young teenage boy as well as his very last piece just before he succumbed to his battle with cancer. It is our hope that you will sense the love, passion and dedication that went into each and every piece. His was truly a labor of love.”
“Part of the Dreamers, Visionaries and Leaders Project mission is focused on honoring and building legacies,” said Regina Weatherspoon-Bell, DVL founder. “DVL has made a commitment to showcase multi-cultural artist here in the High Desert and we’ve found the Victor Valley Museum to be a great partner for these projects. We are proud and privileged to have the Esacelra family, sponsors and community support of our efforts ”
Museum Director Melissa Russo said, “The Victor Valley Museum partnership with DVL has resulted in several excellent art exhibitions well received by the community. We’re honored the organization is partnering with us again to bring these works to our High Desert residents.”
“The Art of Rodolfo Escalera” and the County Museum’s other exciting events and exhibits reflect the effort by the Board of Supervisors to achieve the Countywide Vision by celebrating arts, culture, and education in the county, creating quality of life for residents and visitors.”
