People | Recording Artist Juan Pablo Vega
The hit album Nada Personal is the result of a spectacular creative collaboration between rising star Juan Pablo Vega and 5 time Grammy and Latin Grammy winning producer, maestro Julio Reyes Copello
Juan Pablo Vega (age 28) was born into a middle class musically gifted family from Bogotá, Colombia. He grew up surrounded by music, as a child he remembers accompanying his Dad’s piano performances at home with a Fisher Price gas station that he turned into a drum set.
Juan Pablo became a musically rebellious kid growing up in Colombia, going from being absolutely fascinated by the sounds of Slash, James Hetfield, Dimebag Darrell, Joe Perry to being introduced to the hippie culture at 13. During that time he discovered Argentinean Rock and wasinfluenced by the music of Seru Girán, Fito Páez and Charly García. He was later introduced to The Mamas and the Papas, Jefferson Airplane, Jimmy Hendrix and The Beatles to name a few who further inspired him as an artist.
During his teenage years Juan Pablo mastered the guitar and started singing and writing his first songs. His first stages were typical and small;parties, bonfires, family reunions and bars.
In 2008 Juan Pablo heard that prolific music producer Julio Reyes Copello was looking for new and innovative talent. He sent him a demo with 3 of his songs, 2 covers, 1 original, and Julio was blown away by his style and immediately invited him to Miami to start recording an album together under his recording label Art House Records.
During the research and development of his own style and writing of new songs in direct collaboration and mentorship with Julio Reyes Copello, Juan Pablo also worked as a musician, producer, composer, and engineer for artists such as Florent Pagny, Marc Anthony, Chayanne, Thalia, Paulina Rubio and more. It took him on an unimaginable journey and collaborative effort with Reyes Copello of about 6 years, which resulted in releasing his debut album “Nada Personal” in December 2013 to audiences worldwide.
For his new album a large number of his performances were recorded live and that’s why his genuine music style is embedded with an organic feeling of honesty and expression.
“Nada Personal is a summary of what I am, a simple human being that became a musician and a tribute to the sounds I’ve heard in my 28 years of life, influenced by the likes of Stevie Wonder, James Taylor and the Beatles” – states Juan Pablo Vega.
With a publicity campaign that was started strictly by word of mouth, Juan Pablo Vega’s popular video of his bitter sweet second single, “Nada Personal” has reached over half a million views. This was the second to last song he wrote for the album and invited his friend singer Catalina García, vocalist of Monsieur Periné, to perform a duet with him. The song was recorded live with no retakes. The amazing music video is the result of this spontaneous and exquisite performance.
Juan Pablo Vega’s fresh and original sound certainly agglomerates most of today’s independent music movements of Hispanic America into one unique style. Juan Pablo is ready to reinvent the Hispanic music market with his modern and sophisticated approach, filled with wind instruments, such as tuba, sax, trumpets, heralding strong influences from Rock, Pop, Soul, Reggae and Bolero.
