Hispanic Lifestyle spoke with Lic. Juan Pablo Guzmán, El Secretario de Economía del Estado de Oaxaca about the event Vive Mezcal that will take place on September 12, 13 and 14, at the Cultural and Convention Center of Oaxaca in Oaxaca, Mexico.
“Vive Mezcal 2019.” This important initiative around this spirit called “liquid gold” or “drink of the gods,” as mezcal is also known, will be first international forum of its kind. It is the largest and most ambitious initiative created to strengthen and promote the productive chain around Mezcal from Oaxaca, Mexico, and the supply chain that extends into Los Angeles and the U.S. One LA restaurant boasts over 400 brands of mezcal.
Mezcal is experiencing a boom in popularity and consumption around the world, especially in the United States. Mezcal’s essence is in a Oaxacan village and a family, a tradition, and a slow-growing plant. Oaxaca is the main producer and export leader generating about 4.7 million liters in 2018 alone, representing 92.3% of the total national production in Mexico. With this increasing popularity “Vive Mezcal” will dive deep and explore the future of mezcal and its sustainability, in an event that will be a perfect paring of culture and commerce.
