We kicked off our visit to the Latinas in Tech Summit in time to reconnect with Dr. Betty Uribe, a 2016 Hispanic Lifestyle Latina of Influence, and attend her dynamic presentation, “A New Paradigm: Taking Performance to a New Level.” Her insights were both practical and empowering setting the tone for a day filled with inspiration and purpose.

The summit featured a range of engaging panel discussions, a well attended trade show with corporate recruiters, and countless opportunities to network with like-minded professionals. Representing Hispanic Lifestyle, we had the opportunity to interview key members of the Latinas in Tech (LiT) board Rachel ten Brink, Rose Hartwig, and Miguel Alemañy as well as several attendees eager to share their personal journeys and dedication to uplifting the Latino community.

My personal goal in attending was clear, to connect with new voices willing to share their inspiring stories with our audience and expand our network of changemakers.

The Way We Travel | Celebrity Cruise

The Way We Travel | Celebrity Cruise

t had been nearly 19 years since we last stepped aboard a cruise ship. Not because we don’t enjoy cruising we do but because life has taken us in many different travel directions over the years. Still, with a bit of planning and a small window of opportunity before our son returned to school, we decided it was time.

So, we packed our bags and set sail on a short but memorable voyage with Celebrity Cruises aboard the Celebrity Reflection. The trip spanned from Monday to Friday brief by cruise standards but was filled with moments that reminded us why cruising remains such a unique way to travel. The itinerary included stops in Key West, Florida, and Bimini Island in the Bahamas, two charming destinations that balanced relaxation with a sense of adventure.

It was a relaxing few days that included lots of swimming, special receptions, dancing, frequent trips to the buffet, and a great final evening meal at the Lawn Club Grill. Yes, we even found our way to the gym a few times. Whether lounging poolside or enjoying late-night laughs, the cruise gave us a chance to reconnect and recharge.

Bravo to Celebrity Cruises team for providing exceptional service to our family during our recent stay aboard the Reflection. There was an issue with our room, and the staff promptly resolved it. In fact, they deployed a small army to resolve the issue. The effort was appreciated and didn’t go unnoticed by our family.

As travelers who have seen our share of hotel lobbies, airports, and road trips, it was refreshing to return to the open sea. Celebrity Cruises delivered a premium experience one that reminded us of the joy of slowing down, reconnecting as a family, and discovering the world one port at a time.

Thank you, Celebrity Cruises, for reminding us of the magic of cruising and for creating an experience worth remembering.

Andres Chavez: Executive Director of the National Chavez Center

Andres Chavez: Executive Director of the National Chavez Center

At just 31 years old, Andres Chavez has established himself as a respected nonprofit and civic leader, earning recognition as a strategic thinker, natural organizer, and trusted mobilizer. As Executive Director of the National Chavez Center, he oversees the arm of the Cesar Chavez Foundation dedicated to sharing his grandfather’s legacy and values across the nation.

University president Lynnette Zelezny described him as “a very strategic and brilliant thinker [and] a magnet [who] has that ability to bring people together.” Los Angeles Times columnist Gustavo Arellano noted that Chavez has “already made a name for himself in the Central Valley beyond his pedigree.”

Andres Chavez will be a featured speaker at the Rialto Unified School District’s 18th Annual Family Summit, taking place on Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at W.A. Carter High School. The event will include community organizations, a College and Career Fair, and a series of family workshops.

Leadership and Impact

Chavez directs the Center’s strategic vision, daily operations, and partnerships while managing a staff of 30 and $25 million in assets. Under his leadership, the organization is advancing major initiatives, including:

  • Multi-year observances leading up to Cesar Chavez’s Centennial in 2027, expected to reach millions.
  • Establishing an archives and preservation unit to collect and protect historical assets tied to Chavez, the farm worker movement, and American history.
  • Operating a full-service conferencing and hospitality center in Keene, California.

As a partner with the National Park Service at the Cesar E. Chavez National Monument, Chavez has coordinated cultural events, community observances, and exhibits. His leadership has helped secure over $20 million in gifts and launched innovative collaborations with universities, nonprofits, businesses, and civic organizations nationwide.

Civic Engagement and Service

Chavez is frequently sought out for his insight and leadership on projects of national importance. He organized California’s largest mass COVID-19 vaccination clinic for farm workers, coordinated a visit there by First Lady Dr. Jill Biden, and worked closely with the White House. Personal Background

A Kern County native, Chavez graduated magna cum laude from California State University, Bakersfield. Deeply engaged in civic, educational, and political affairs, he serves on prestigious boards and is an outspoken advocate for Latino causes, especially in spaces where Latinos continue to face systemic challenges.
